1. Đề bài: The graph below gives information about U.S. government spending on research between 1980 and 2008
Bài mẫu IELTS Writing Task 1 Line Graph: Electrical Appliances
The line graph provides data on the expenditures of the U.S. government on research from 1980 to 2008. The amounts are in billions of dollars.
Overall, the U.S. government’s investment in research increased significantly during the period under consideration, with some fluctuations.
In 1980, the government spent just under 20 billion dollars on research. This figure rose steadily over the next two decades, reaching a peak of around 100 billion dollars in 2000. There was a slight dip in spending in the early 2000s. But it quickly bounced back to reach another high of just over 120 billion dollars in 2008.
It is also worth noting that there were some variations in the amount of research funding allocated to different fields during this period. In 1980, the largest chunk of research funding went towards defense research, which accounted for more than 40% of the total. However, by 2008, this had dropped to just under 20%.
In contrast, funding for health research saw a significant increase over the same period, rising from around 10% in 1980 to just under 25% in 2008. The other fields that received government funding for research – space, energy, and the environment – remained relatively stable, with only small fluctuations in their respective percentages over the years.
Overall, the line graph clearly shows that the U.S. government has increased its spending on research over the past three decades, and that there have been some shifts in the areas where this funding has been allocated.

1. Đề bài The chart below shows the unemployment rate and the number of people leaving Ireland from 1988 to 2008.
Bài mẫu IELTS Writing Task 1 Line Graph:
The chart provides data on the unemployment rate and the number of people emigrating from Ireland between the years 1988 and 2008.
Overall, the data shows that as the unemployment rate in Ireland increased. Additionally, both the unemployment rate and the number of emigrants peaked in the early 1990s before gradually declining in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
In 1988, the unemployment rate was just under 15% while around 20,000 people left Ireland. The following year, the unemployment rate increased to nearly 17% and the number of people emigrating increased to around 30,000.
The early 1990s were the peak years for both unemployment and emigration in Ireland. In 1993, the unemployment rate peaked at just over 17%. And the number of people leaving the country reached around 50,000. However, from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, the unemployment rate gradually declined and so did the number of people emigrating. By 2000, the unemployment rate had fallen to just over 4% and the number of people leaving the country had fallen to around 10,000.
In the late 2000s, the unemployment rate began to rise again due to the global economic recession, the number of people emigrating also began to increase. By 2008, the unemployment rate had reached just under 7% and the number of people leaving Ireland had increased to around 40,000.
In conclusion, the chart shows a clear correlation between the unemployment rate and the number of people leaving Ireland during the period from 1988 to 2008. Both peaked in the early 1990s before gradually declining in the late 1990s and early 2000s. However, both indicators began to increase again in the late 2000s due to the global economic recession.
